Winterowd Fine Art is known for discovering and exhibiting contemporary mid-career and emerging artists who have distinct and original art, mastering often unusual and difficult techniques that sets their work apart. The gallery with its elegant gardens is located on the famed Canyon Road. Walking into the gallery, visitors are often struck by ethereal quality of the work displayed; there is a sense of lightness and warmth as each artist plays with the light and color of the natural world. Santa Fe’s high desert environment of crisp light, magnificent vistas, and emotive sky provides infinite inspiration for artists.

Two artists featured in our Modern Directions exhibition are Sarah Bienvenu and Tom Kirby.

Sarah Bienvenu has been painting the New Mexico landscape for 30 years.  Ready with her hat, sun block and a backpack filled with art supplies, she paints what she sees: gentle clouds, moving on a clear blue sky; trees standing in pairs, swaying together as in a dance; streams etching their paths down a hill; boulders resting together. The earth has a pulse, a rhythm, and Sarah Bienvenu has found it.

Tom Kirby’s art interest began at a young age, first by emulating his father (a second generation Abstract Expressionist painter).  Tom draws inspiration for his work from his extensive travels throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. Tom’s work is distinctly modern yet deeply influenced by old masters.  His art is a synthesis of expressionistic and minimal influences.
